KFC Responds to Worker Protests: There has been Agreement since January 2021

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Director of PT Fast Food Indonesia Tbk, Justinus Dalimin Juwono, responded to reports of protests launched by a number of workers at the fast food restaurant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) related to the payment of wages and holiday allowances (THR). Fast Food is none other than the sole franchise rights holder for the KFC brand in Indonesia.

“Everything we have discussed and agreed upon with our union, SPFFI. We have to do anything to reach an agreement on these matters, since January 2021,” Justinus said when contacted in Jakarta, Monday, April 12, 2021.

Previously, protests came from a number of KFC workers who are members of the Solidarity Struggle Labor Indonesia (SPBI) SB PT Fast Food Indonesia Tbk. The news about this protest has actually been sticking out since November 2020.

In their statement, workers said that the company issued a number of policies on the grounds of the Covid-19 pandemic in April 2020. Among them were cutting wages and holding wages, paying THR not in accordance with the provisions of the KFC Collective Labor Agreement (PKB), as well as delaying the payment of workers’ overtime pay.

Tempo contacted Antony Matondang, a member of the workers who were protesting, to ask for further information. However, phone calls and WhatsApp messages that were delivered have not been returned.
