Durant Dunking Dollars into Paris Saint-Germain
NBA Star Invests in French Soccer Powerhouse
In a move that merges hoops and football, basketball superstar Kevin Durant has secured a minority stake in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The French club announced the partnership, signaling a strategic alliance between the NBA icon and the Champions League winner.
PSG’s majority shareholder, Qatar Sports Investments, and Durant have finalized an investment and strategic partnership. While the financial specifics remain undisclosed, the deal is set to meld Durant’s business acumen with PSG’s multifaceted strategy. Durant’s media and investment company, Boardroom, co-founded with business partner Rich Kleiman, will handle the acquisition.
“It is an honor to partner with QSI and be a shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain — a club and city that is deeply close to my heart,”
—Kevin Durant
Boardroom Sports Holdings, Durant’s investment vehicle, and QSI are joining forces on several commercial initiatives. The average value of a top-tier soccer team has increased by 14% in the last year, according to a recent report (Statista 2024), underscoring the growing value of global sports brands.
Expanding Horizons
This agreement comes as discussions continue involving the NBA, FIBA, and other entities regarding a possible new European league. Durant will offer his expertise to the club’s multi-sport strategy, with the potential inclusion of basketball.
Durant, a two-time NBA champion and a four-time Olympic gold medalist, will also support PSG’s development in the U.S. and other international markets. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, PSG’s president, stated that, with Durant, they plan to pursue initiatives to encourage the growth of Paris Saint-Germain globally.
