July 8 online master class The young cellists were given by Riga-born, world-famous cellist Miša Maiskis. The meeting of students and the outstanding musician was organized by the academy of the festival “Riga Jurmala”, and within the framework of it Miša Maiskis played Bach’s first suite for cello, while the young talents could ask the master the questions they were interested in. –

Born in Riga and having his first musical education, Miša Maiskis, currently one of the world’s most outstanding cellists, has collaborated with many classical music stars during her career, but is sincere and simple in her conversations with students.

Within the framework of the online master class organized by the festival “Riga Jurmala” academy, three students of the Academy of Music are given the opportunity to ask the master the questions they are interested in. Miša Maiskis, on the other hand, evaluates the performance of the young cellists in previous recordings. More than professionally technical subtleties, the famous musician emphasizes music “from the heart” rather than “from the head”.

“Whatever you do, the most important thing is to do it with love. When you share with people a thing that comes from your heart, people, especially people who like classical music and who are quite sensitive, consciously or unconsciously feel and appreciate it. It is also the difference between good musicians and great artists. And that is the highest level we are all striving to achieve.

I also really like chess, and chess is the difference between a master and a grandmaster. There is a difference in music between a master and an artist.

This last step is the most difficult and the most important. We must always continue to strive for this level. And yet – keep youthful! This is another very important thing, “Maiskis pointed out.

Klavs Jankevics, a 3rd year student of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, praised Maiska’s youthful energy and other views of music. “Of course, it is very nice to talk to a master like Miša Maiskis,” the young musician told about the experience. “I think that’s the motivation – go, get it and do it. This, in my opinion, from all the master classes – are they live, online or a post on Youtube is motivation. ”

The master class with Misha Maiski is not the first student meeting with world music stars organized by the Riga Jūrmala Academy and the Academy of Music, and such are planned in the future as well.

“Riga Jurmala Festival came to us at the Academy of Music and said – you know, we can offer you these people.

Of course, we were in a positive shock and realized that we obviously needed it, and we were going to organize master classes for many different stars during the festival.

But now the festival did not take place. But the festival team does not give up and the educational project does not give up either, ”emphasized Toms Ostrovskis, the director of the Riga Jurmala Academy of the festival and an associate professor of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

The master class with Miša Maiski, as well as others that took place before, could be watched live, but its recording is still available at the “Riga Jurmala” Academy. Facebook page.
