Users of social networks learned the opinion of Keanu Reeves about the connection of “The Matrix” with transgender people and understood: this is another reason to love the actor even more. But other moviegoers were in no hurry to be touched by the reaction of the celebrity, because Lilly Wachowski’s confession about the hidden meaning of the film does not inspire their confidence.
Lilly Wachowski (formerly Andrew Wachowski), co-creator of The Matrix with her sister Lana (née Laurence Wachowski), spoke about the trans-related subtext of The Matrix on August 4 in a Netflix Film Club video. When asked about her opinion on the theory that the film is an allegory of transgender, the director admitted that she feels positive emotions from such assumptions.
I’m glad it came up – the fact that it was our original intention. But the world wasn’t quite ready [к этому], the corporate culture was not quite ready for this.
Wachowski also added that Switch was originally conceived as a woman in the simulation, but a man in the real world. And the essence of The Matrix, according to Lilly, is the desire for transformation.

Lilly Wachowski spoke about it earlier, confessing what inspired her to create the story of Neo and Trinity.
