The concentration “on very few giant slaughterhouses” is responsible for the fact that “the people there work under shitty conditions”, said Goering-Eckardt. “We have to make sure that meat is slaughtered near the rearing house.”
SPD general secretary Lars Klingbeil made a similar statement on the program. “I think the whole system got too big at this point,” said Klingbeil. He was concerned that the farmers would be strengthened compared to the slaughterhouses. “And I personally believe that we need smaller slaughterhouses. When animals are driven through half of Europe, you can see that the system is no longer healthy. ”
