Kate Middleton and Prince William’s powerful message to those struggling in lockdown

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to launch a new government campaign focussed on looking after people’s mental wellbeing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Prince William and wife Kate narrate the video from Public Health England’s Every Mind Matters which is set to be broadcast across national TV channels and social media from Monday, April 20.

With the words “we’re in this together”, the couple herald the scheme which includes new NHS expert tips and advice on looking after mental wellbeing and supporting your family and loved ones during the crisis.

William and Kate say: “All over the country people are staying at home to protect the NHS and save lives.

The campaign has been updated after new data shows over 4 in 5 Brits are worried about the effect that coronavirus is having on their life, with over half saying it was affecting their well-being.

The original launched last October with a similar video involving William and Kate and featuring Prince Harry and Meghan, before they quit the royal family.

Nearly half of those surveyed said they were experiencing high levels of anxiety due to the unprecedented time we are living in.

The tailored Covid-19 Mind Plan has specific content for individuals and their loved ones and gives support for specific mental wellbeing issues such as anxiety, stress, low mood and trouble sleeping.

The website signposts people to activities such as mindful breathing exercises, help reframing unhelpful thoughts, and muscle relaxation.

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock said: “We have asked people to make unprecedented changes to their day-to-day lives as part of our national effort to respond to this global pandemic.

“Staying at home and not seeing friends and loved ones can take its toll and it is completely understandable to feel overwhelmed or anxious.
