Rapper Kanye West, who announced his candidacy for the US Presidency last July, will appear on the ballot papers of the state of Utah as an independent candidate during the upcoming November elections.
With the approval of Utah, a state with 3 million inhabitants, West may be elected in three territories of the country, having previously managed to register in Oklahoma and Colorado.
In addition, he could be a candidate in the state of Wisconsin, although his motion there has been paused after a lawsuit that demands his withdrawal for not having correctly completed the registration and presenting a list of signatures difficult to verify.
Although the musician registered his election campaign committee with the Federal Elections Commission, the real intentions behind his political candidacy have never been clear, as it was announced when the registration deadline had expired in several states.
Recently, a report on the CNN news network said that West’s initiative was viewed favorably by some members of the Republican Party as conservatives believed that his name on the ballot could divert potential voters from Democrat Joe Biden.
CNN indicated that lawyers who had previously worked for Republicans would be collaborating with the rapper to register him in more states, although no official source has commented on the matter.
It all happens after Forbes magazine published an interview with the musician in which he made several controversial statements.
Among them, that he no longer supported the current president, Donald Trump, whom he had defended fervently, that he suspected of a possible vaccine against COVID-19 or that the US family planning system is the work of white supremacists.
He also explained that his campaign slogan would be “YES!” And the name of his political party, “Birthday Party”, which he chose because: “When we win, it will be everyone’s birthday.”
Also, various media claimed that in this context, West and his wife, television star Kim Kardashian lead separate lives at a time of crisis for the couple and during an episode of bipolarity for the musician.
