The Free State of Bavaria has around 5000 hectares of state forest as protected “natural forests”, including areas in the Steigerwald and Würzburg. But there is also criticism.
Bavaria’s Minister of Agriculture Michaela Kaniber announced on Friday that around 5,000 hectares of state forest in the Free State should be designated as natural forests and thus protected under permanent protection. From now on, the forests are no longer used for forestry. The designation of the natural forests was negotiated at the round table following the successful referendum “Biodiversity – Save the Bees”.
