Kampung Bahari raided, residents against police setting off firecrackers

Jakarta

The police raided again Maritime village, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta (Jakut). Today’s operation drew resistance from local residents.

North Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Wibowo said a number of residents fired firecrackers into the air as members arrived at the scene. The firecrackers were fired into the air as a code because the police visited the area which is often the site of drug trafficking.

“So this method is the same as before. If there is law enforcement related policing drugs they usually fight their group by throwing firecrackers,” Wibowo said when contacted on Wednesday (30/11/2022).

Wibowo said residents always shot firecrackers when they saw police arriving in small numbers. The firecracker code is always used by the residents of Kampung Bahari to avoid police operations.

“So that’s how it was in Kampung Bahari when they saw some policemen shooting firecrackers as code. But if there were enough (many) staff they backed out,” he said.

During today’s operation, unscrupulous residents of Kampung Bahari again fired firecrackers. However, Wibowo said the firecrackers were not directed at the officers.

He also ensured that no policemen were stoned or injured due to the actions of Kampung Bahari residents today.

“Not him shoot upward. That’s how they do it. So as soon as you see a drug-related police application, they usually are shoot firecrackers in the air so that shots could be heard and as code to resist officers,” Wibowo said.

Several people were arrested by Kampung Bahari police. Read more on the next page.
