Kamala Harris puts candidate Chief Justice Barrett on the bullseye …

As a member of the Senate Justice Committee, Democratic runningmate Kamala Harris was able to put Chief Justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett on the roster during the second day of her candidacy hearings. Harris questioned Barrett’s impartiality when it comes to Obama’s health bill, the election results, and the abortion bill.

Right now, the Trump administration and Republican senators are urging the Supreme Court to pass the Affordable Care Act (Obama’s Health Act, ed.), ”Harris said in a speech. The Republicans are rushing to confirm this candidate as soon as possible because they (for this, ed.) need one more Trump judge. ”

“People fear what will happen if the Affordable Care Act is overturned in a pandemic.” She then asked if Barrett knew before her nomination that Trump was looking for judges to drop Obamacare. Barrett replied that she did not remember. “I hope the committee trusts my integrity,” she said, adding that she has made no promises about the health law.

Harris also questioned her impartiality when it comes to abortion. Barrett was a member of an anti-abortion organization that says The Guardian accused of providing misleading information to vulnerable women seeking an abortion. “I propose that we don’t pretend we don’t know what this candidate’s opinion is about women’s right to choose,” he said sharply.

Decisive vote

The Conservative judge was nominated by US President Donald Trump last month to succeed the recently deceased progressive Ruth Bader Ginsburg. With her there would be six Conservative Chief Justices versus three Progressive ones.

Democrats are not keen on that appointment because they fear it will tighten the US abortion law and abolish Obamacare. In addition, elections could end in the Supreme Court – Trump assumes that – and Barrett’s vote could be decisive.

Harris also explicitly asked whether Barrett would stand by himself if the Supreme Court had to pass a judgment on the election results. That is a demand from the Democrats. Barrett admitted that the decision to stay aloof was indeed her own “but it would be wrong to make a decision about it in advance.”
