Kaizer Chiefs‘ Rising Star Faces Work Rate Concerns, Club Eyes Goalkeeper Reinforcements
Kaizer Chiefs teenager Luke Baartman has been lauded for his intelligence but cautioned about his work rate in training, according to former Orlando Pirates star Benson Mhlongo.Simultaneously, the Soweto giants are reportedly pursuing Asante Kotoko and Guinea goalkeeper Mohamed Kamara, a 1.94m tall shot-stopper, as potential reinforcements between the posts.
These developments come as Kaizer Chiefs navigate a period of rebuilding and strategic player acquisition. Mhlongo’s assessment of Baartman highlights the need for patience and development within the club’s youth ranks, while the interest in Kamara signals a proactive approach to addressing goalkeeping depth. Both situations reflect the ongoing efforts to restore Kaizer Chiefs to dominance in South African football, a position the club officially maintains as its own.
Mhlongo described Baartman as ”a new sensation-one of the rare smart players at his age. He is vrey smart,” but added, “I just hope Chiefs will be patient with him because he doesn’t show much work rate at training; he is more calculative. While others might potentially be running at full speed, he takes a more measured approach.”
Regarding the potential goalkeeping addition, Kamara revealed, “I was approached after our amiable match. They appreciated my performance, especially the four penalties saved.”
