K.Benzema’s goal led Real to semi-finals of the Champions League

Madrid „Real“ club in UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after overtime in overall result 5 – 4 beat London „Chelsea“ footballers and won a ticket to the semifinals.

Interesting facts:

The visitors’ N’Golo Kante took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side’s goalie and center backs 4 minutes into the match. Marcosas Alonso pulled a real crowd pleaser as he, after 62 minutes, wove through the guests’ entire central defense and put the 1 – 1 equalizer away. However, the referee took the advantage of reviewing the VAR technology and recorded the goal without scoring a goal. Karimas Benzema dispatched a majestic long shot 66 minutes into the match, but missed the goal by a few meters. The visitors’ Timo Werneris took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side’s goalie and center backs 75 minutes into the match. 3 – 0 for fc. A spectacular volley from Luka Modričius almost resulted in a goal, but a good save from the keeper kept it out, and Rodrygo could only knock the loose ball wide. The winner could not be determined in the regular time, so the teams had to play overtime.

• Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy missed 3 goals in his final match with Real. That’s as many goals as he missed in the previous 10 matches in the Champions League.

• Karim Benzema has defended 11 goals in the Champions League this season in defense of the Spanish club. The latter has become the most distinguished Frenchman in a single season in the history of the Champions League.

• Real advanced to the next round nine out of ten previous times after winning their first match at a rivalry.

• The winner of the Chelsea and Real pair will face Manchester City or Atletico in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

• It will be recalled that UEFA has abolished the away goal rule. This means that the goal scored in the rivals’ fortress does not provide an additional advantage.
