Juventus training set to start against Genoa on Sunday

Juventus clinched first place in their Champions League group on Wednesday with an impressive 3-0 away win over poor Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo ensured Juventus were victorious with two penalties, with Weston McKennie also scoring to continue his impressive start wearing the famous black and white.

With the Champions League set aside until February, the defending Serie A champions can now refocus on their failed title defense. Although still unbeaten, the old lady has not stepped up a gear in the league, winning just five of her ten games this season.

This weekend’s away game against little Genoa in Serie A should see a totally different challenge than the one the Catalan team (did not) present. Juve are the big favorites, but there could be a rotation in their squad ahead of the big midweek game against Atalanta on Wednesday night.

Here, 90 min takes a look at the starting XI that Andrea Pirlo is likely to start with against Genoa.

Wojciech Szczesny (GK) – Gianluigi Buffon started at Camp Nou and saved all seven shots on target (all from Lionel Messi!) But he injured his calf in the match and – let’s be honest – is far from the club’s league keeper .

Matthijs de Ligt (CB) – The € 85million signing is the future of Juventus’ defense. He returned from a shoulder injury just under a month ago and has started showing promise of late.

Leonardo Bonucci (CB) – Last weekend’s hero, scoring the late winning header against city rival Torino. Will be seated in the middle of the three rears.

Danilo (CB) – The former Manchester City player is now an integral part of Juve’s three full-backs, starting nine out of ten Serie A games this season. Expect him to make his tenth in this game.

Image ID: Juan Cuadrado (RM) One of Juventus’ most important players this season, surpassing many of his teammates. Has three assists in his last two games. Nailed to the starter.

Rodrigo Bentancur (CM) – He rested against Barcelona, but made a cameo appearance after the match went to bed. Expected to regain his central role in the heart of the Juventus midfielder.

Adrien Rabiot (CM) – At just 25, the Frenchman focused on his football after the summer transfer buzz. Likely to start but will feel under pressure from Weston McKennie after the American’s impressive performances lately.

Federico Chiesa (LM) – Returning to his hometown, the young Italian enjoyed an early career at Juve, but still managed to provide four assists in five league appearances. Need a great performance.

Dejan Kulusevski (AM) The versatile Swede is still looking to consolidate his place in the squad. With Cuadrado controlling the right flank, Pirlo looks to experiment by placing promising talent behind forwards.

Alvaro Morata (ST) – Provided a huge boost to i Bianconeri when his two-game ban has been reduced to one, and will be looking to get his tenth goal of the season. His heist play and clever moves help his punching partner find the space he needs to perform his magic.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST) – In great shape after scoring two goals (although both penalties) at Camp Nou to reignite the whole GOAT debate (uh, ish). Has failed to score only twice this season. Watch out for Genoa.
