Justin Trudeau on his way to the North American Leaders’ Summit in Washington

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is flying to Washington on Wednesday morning for a trip that will include meetings at the White House on Thursday with United States President Joe Biden and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for the first North American Leaders’ Summit since 2016.

On Wednesday noon, Prime Minister Trudeau will first participate in a question and answer session hosted by the Wilson Center.

In the afternoon, he will first have talks with the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

He will then meet with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Republican Mitch McConnell.

On Thursday morning, Justin Trudeau will participate in an event with middle school students along with United States Vice President Kamala Harris.

He will then have talks in turn with President López Obrador and President Biden. The three heads of government will then meet together at the White House at the end of the afternoon.

During this North American Leaders’ Summit, the United States, Mexico and Canada are expected to chart a new course of collaboration to end the COVID-19 pandemic and advance health security. They will also discuss competitiveness and equitable growth, including climate change, as well as a regional vision for migration, according to what the White House announced.

Prime Minister Trudeau will hold a press conference at the Embassy of Canada in the United States in the evening.
