Jurmala Festival opened with piano music festival / Article / LSM.lv

Music and musicians do not want to be silent. And even with limitations – music festivals open their doors and the long-awaited meeting of musicians with listeners resumes both in person and online on the Internet. On Wednesday, the Jurmala Festival started playing in Dzintari Concert Hall, which will continue until August 4, offering six musically different concerts.

At the opening concert, the audience enjoyed the piano music festival together with the outstanding pianists of the Osokin dynasty – Sergei, Andrei and Georgy Osokin. The pianists jointly performed 20th century French music in arrangements for two and three pianos – the mesmerizing Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero” and the final of the two pianos of the Francis Pulenk Concerto, in which bubbling energy alternates with captivating French melody.

The rhythmic passion was refreshed by Ludwig van Beethoven’s deeply tragic “Sonata of the Moon” and the poetic moments of Frederic Chopin. Osokin’s performance also featured Alexander Scriabin’s exquisite late piano masterpieces and, of course, Emil Darzins’ “Melancholic Waltz” as a gift to the audience.
