June was the second warmest observation in history

The average air temperature in Latvia in June was plus 18.1 degrees, which is 3.3 degrees above the monthly norm. This is the second June in a row, the average air temperature in Latvia is higher than plus 18 degrees, and together with June 1999, this year is the second warmest in the history of observations (since 1924), lagging behind last June, when the average air temperature the temperature in Latvia was plus 18.6 degrees.

The minimum monthly air temperature plus 1 degree was observed on June 2 in Zosēni, but the maximum air temperature plus 31.4 degrees was observed on June 18 in Skulte.

A total of 46 daily maximum air temperature records were broken in June, including three decades of maximum air temperature records, and one decade and one daily maximum air temperature record was repeated.

The total amount of precipitation in Latvia in June was 91.1 millimeters (mm), which is 24% above the monthly norm (73.3 mm). The highest precipitation (191.8 mm) was in Jelgava, but the lowest in Stende – 42.7 mm.

At several observation stations, June was one of the wettest in 60 years. In Jelgava and Liepāja it was the wettest since 1961, but in Ainaži, Bauska, Kalnciems, Piedruja, Rīga and Rūjiena it was among the five wettest.

On average, there were 8.6 days in Latvia in June with a rainfall of at least 1 mm. The highest number of such days was in Alūksne, Gulbene and Jelgava – 12 days, but the lowest (five days) – in Kolka, Mērsrags and Stende.

The average relative humidity in Latvia in June was 75% – from 69% in Riga to 81% in Kolka. The strongest wind gusts (24.1 m / s) were observed on June 8 in Priekuli.
