(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Kyung-yoon = Korean men’s judo’s’signboard’ Ahn Chang-lim (Fillux, 13th in the world ranking) once again defeated Japan’s pride Hashimoto Soichi (2nd in the world ranking) and revealed the prospect of the Tokyo Olympics.

On the 13th (Korean time), Ahn Chang-rim won the gold medal after a foul victory in an overtime (Golden Score) match against Hashimoto in the men’s 73kg class final on the second day of the 2021 Doha Masters Tournament held at the Rusail Sports Arena in Doha, Qatar.

He participated in the international competition after 11 months due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), but showed off his rust-resistant skills and obtained up to 1,800 ranking points with a gold medal and Olympic qualification.

Ahn Chang-rim started the game at a disadvantage. I was given a map (coward) 40 seconds after the game started.

Hashimoto’s defense blocked Hashimoto’s defense and could not lead to a point.

Ahn Chang-rim played an extended game after spending all 4 minutes of regular time.

The situation got worse. He received a map side by side with Hashimoto, saying he played passively in 1 minute and 57 seconds of overtime. It was a situation at the edge of a cliff where you could record a foul if you received one more map.

However, Ahn Chang-rim continued to fight for strength with Hashimoto with his unique strong physical strength.

The game was rather futile. Hashimoto tried a dangerous technique of pulling Ahn Chang-rim’s right arm in 3 minutes and 40 seconds of overtime.

Ahn Chang-rim shouted as if he was feeling pain, and the referee declared Hashimoto to lose a foul and won Ahn Chang-lim, saying he used a technique that could cause injury.

The relationship between Ahn Chang-rim and Hashimoto is deep.

Ahn Chang-rim, the third-year-old Korean-Japanese in Japan, played for Japan until 2013, but rejected Japanese naturalization requests and moved to Korea in 2014.

After winning the All-Japan Student Championships in 2013, Ahn Chang-rim transferred to Yongin University in Korea, and Hashimoto was the player he met in the final of the tournament.

After that, Ahn Chang-lim met Hashimoto at the international competition twice and lost both, but won the final of the Hohhot Grand Prix in China in May 2018 and the final of the World Championships in September 2018.

Hashimoto is the strongest man who has reached number one in the world ranking of this weight class until recently.

However, Shohei Ono of Japan, who is’double walled’ with Hashimoto in that weight category, did not compete in this event. Ahn Chang-rim was weak enough to record 5 matches against Ohno.

Ahn Chang-lim has a strong will to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics beyond Hashimoto and Ono.

In a recent interview, he said, “Tokyo Budokan, where the Tokyo Olympics is held, is the place where we won our first national championship in Japan,” he said. “I want to win the gold medal and hear the national anthem.”
