Judge Affirms Settlement $ 800 Million Las Vegas Shooting | NOW

A $ 800 million ($ 682 million) settlement between hotel and casino group MGM Resorts and the families of the victims and survivors of the October 1, 2017 massacre in Las Vegas has been upheld by a court. 58 people were killed three years ago when a gunman from an MGM hotel room opened fire at a country festival.

The settlement was reached between the relatives and MGM Resorts last year. The hotel had received hundreds of claims after the attacks.

Relatives and victims believed that the hotel had not done enough to prevent the shooter from taking his weapons inside. More than twenty firearms were found in the shooter’s room.

Initially, an amount of $ 735 million was agreed, but this could still increase. This would depend on how many plaintiffs would report to the case. MGM initially wanted to challenge the claims, but decided “to give the victims the opportunity to proceed”. The settlement is not an acknowledgment of liability, according to the hotel chain.

In the shooting in October 2017, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock fired more than a thousand bullets from his hotel room with automatic weapons at visitors to a music festival for 11 minutes. 58 people were killed and more than eight hundred injured. Paddock took his own life as officers approached his room.
