The president of the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), Subtle Johnagain referred to the constituent process, although he also addressed other issues such as the tax reform proposed by the Government and asserted that “unfortunately, today Chile is not a safe country to invest“.
In an extensive interview with El Mercurio, the union leader began by addressing the arson attack on his field in Galvarino. “You have to assume your responsibility and your destiny. It is difficult to defend values and principlesto the productive sector that is so important for the country’s development and has been so reviled,” he said.
Regarding whether he feels fear after this attack, Sutil stated that “of course, I am not naive. But they are not going to intimidate me or shut me up“.

Uncertainty
Juan Sutil once again commented on the constituent process, as has been the trend in recent months, in which he has been critical of the Constitutional Convention. He even referred to Moody’s rating agency warningin which he points out that there will be “more uncertainty” if the proposal for a new Constitution is rejected.
“I am surprised that Moody’s makes such a comment, because if it is approved, we will have an adaptation process that will generate a lot of uncertainty for many years. Chileans want a good new Constitution that unites them and gives them governability”, remarked the president of the CPC.
He declined to elaborate on whether he will vote for Approval or Rejection in the exit plebiscite on September 4. “I am not going to pronounce myself until I am clear about the last comma of this proposal, which I see with many deficiencies. I want a Constitution widely supported by the citizens so that it can once again have institutional legitimacy. If you win by 51% or lose by 49%, this Constitution will have no legitimacy“, he pointed.
Subtle: “Chile is not a safe country to invest in”
The businessman also had words for the statements made by President Gabriel Boric in the United States, especially the tax reform. “If the reforms proposed by the President lead Chile to development with social protection, where do I sign? If that means making relevant adjustments in tax matters, with a common diagnosis, we also agree”, said Sutil.
However, he was critical of the President’s statements about investment in the country. “Unfortunately, today Chile is not a safe country to investSubtle said. “It is something to see what happens in La Araucanía, in Arauco, in Ñuñoa with Egaña Sustentable, in the six thousand departments with permits granted at the Central Station and without municipal reception, or investment projects rejected by the Council of Ministers.”
“And the new rights of nature, added to the environmental principles, will make permits even more complex and costly. As well as the labor changes, to union ownership and the strike, they will put pressure on labor relations”, he stressed.
