Journal Frankfurt News – Open-air cinema in the old police headquarters

The open-air cinema is taking place for the ninth time this year and is returning to the inner courtyard of the old police headquarters. In addition to various cinema highlights, there will also be a musical program. The start is on June 30th.

From June 30th to August 21st, the Frankfurt open-air cinema returns to the inner courtyard of the old police headquarters. Every week from Thursday to Sunday, the cinema highlights of the past months will be shown on the screen. The open-air cinema is accompanied by a musical program, drinks and galettes and crepes by Chez Vivi.

The documentary film “Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm” on Thursday, June 30th, which is now the ninth edition, is about 60 years of music culture in the Turkish community in Germany. Friday follows the film “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush”, which has been nominated for two bears at this year’s Berlinale. On Saturday we continue with the film “House of Gucci”, in which singer Lady Gaga also plays, among others. On Sunday the black and white drama ‘Belfast’ will be screened at the outdoor cinema, giving a child’s perspective on the conflict in Northern Ireland.

CSD anniversary program in the open-air cinema

The following week, on July 7th, the anniversary program on the occasion of the CSD in Frankfurt starts in the open-air cinema. The film “Portrait of a young woman on fire” will be shown: The film is about forbidden love between two women. On Friday we continue with the film “Great Freedom”, which is about a man named Hans Hoffmann who loves men – and that in post-war Germany. The two films “Licorice Pizza” and “Spencer” follow. The latter shows a free variation of a few Christmas days in 1990.

It continues on Thursday, July 16, with the film “Red Rocket”. This shows the life of an ex-porn actor and his efforts to find his way back into business. Other films include “Parallel Mothers” with actress Penélope Cruz or “The French Dispatch” – also with prominent cast. Among others, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet and Owen Wilson will be there.

>> More information about the program is available at Website follow. Tickets cost 10 euros; Admission and ticket office opening are from 7.30 p.m. The films start when it is sufficiently dark. Performances that cannot take place due to the weather will be postponed to another date if possible.
