Jos Brech, the 58-year-old man convicted of abusing and kidnapping Nicky Verstappen, tries to block the broadcast of a documentary about the case on television. Lawyer Adi van Koningsveld confirms reports on this by RTL Boulevard on Saturday.

On behalf of her client, Van Koningsveld has brought preliminary relief proceedings against documentary maker No Pictures Please, a company founded by presenter Ewout Genemans and RTL. Genemans was with the detective team for three years. He announced that the two-part documentary can be seen on television on Sunday and Monday.

On behalf of Jos Brech, Van Koningsveld says that there has not yet been an irrevocable verdict in the case against him. The lawyer speaks of “an unlawful act”. She indicates that her client is presented as the perpetrator while an appeal is still pending. According to her, this constitutes a violation of the so-called presumption of innocence, the principle that states that everyone is innocent until proven otherwise, and that the documentary is an infringement of the privacy of B.

If the court agrees to a ban, a penalty of 250,000 euros per violation must be paid if it is to Counsel Van Koningsveld, with a maximum of 1,000,000 euros. “The interest in the broadcast of the documentary in no way outweighs the interest of the plaintiff,” the lawyer states in the demand.

A spokesperson for RTL informs this site: “It is true that we received a summons today. RTL and No Pictures Please still support this carefully made documentary and we assume that we can broadcast this morning. ”

Everything is already known
Peter R. de Vries, confidant of Nicky Verstappen’s family, does not think the judge will proceed to a ban. “I think the response is very late. And I also think that RTL and No Pictures Please cannot be blamed for much. They have used the facilities that the government has offered them. They have not committed a violation and have not taken advantage of the situation, ”the crime reporter told RTL Boulevard.

Everything in the documentary about Jos Brech is already known or broadcast, he says. “For example when it comes to the images of the arrest in Spain. I cannot imagine a judge saying that the documentary should not be broadcast. It would amount to some form of censorship if that happens. ”

Exciting quest
No Pictures Please was founded by presenter Ewout Genemans (35). He spent three years with the detective team in the Nicky Verstappen case. Even before a suspect was on the screen and a large-scale DNA relationship study was started, the presenter joined. What followed was an exciting search for a suspect in the criminal case that has occupied the country for decades. After the conviction of Jos Brech last Friday – he was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison – Ewout announced that the two-part documentary can be seen on television on Sunday and Monday.

The preliminary relief proceedings will be served on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the court in Amsterdam.
