Jonk extends contract with FC Volendam after strong debut season | NOW

Wim Jonk extended his contract with FC Volendam on Saturday for a year. The former international of the Dutch national team is now in the Kras Stadium until mid-2022.

“We are all here on a clear mission. I feel very strongly that everyone within the club is working hard to jointly grow to a higher level. It makes sense to me that we are not done with this yet”, Jonk says on the club’s website.

“So I look forward to the next steps with great pleasure. We were already well on our way with more atmosphere and experience in the stadium. As soon as we can play for the public again, we can also continue with that great challenge: play the stadium full. “

The 53-year-old Jonk started his first job as head coach at FC Volendam last summer. He has had a great season at the dike for the time being. Jonk won the second period title with the orange shirts and is third in the Kitchen Champion Division after 29 out of a total of 38 rounds.

The Kitchen Champion Division, like almost all other European competitions, is still on hold due to the corona crisis. The KNVB wants to continue with the Kitchen Champion Division and Eredivisie on June 19, where possible, and to finish the season more than a month later.

Jonk, who was a player and board member at FC Volendam in the past, was employed by Ajax between 2008 and 2015. He first worked as a technical trainer in Amsterdam and later served as head of the youth academy. He left there almost 3.5 years ago after a conflict about the implementation of Johan Cruijff’s vision.
