There are special instructions from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan regarding the handling and control of COVID-19. Jokowi wants Anies to create herd immunity in DKI in August.
This was conveyed by Jokowi during a review of the COVID-19 vaccination at the Tanah Tinggi Flats, Monday (14/6/2021). Jokowi has set a target that by the end of August, as many as 7.5 million people in DKI Jakarta have been vaccinated.
When giving this direction, Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan, and Mayor of Central Jakarta Dhany Sukma. Previous, Jokowi conducted a survey at the Patriot Stadium Bekasi and Pluit Reservoir.
“I together with the Minister of Health and the Governor of DKI along with the Mayor of Central Jakarta saw the progress of vaccination development, especially this morning which was held at the Tanah Tinggi Flats in Central Jakarta. Why is it done here? Because this is a dense area with interactions between people very high, so priority is given to vaccinating,” said Jokowi.
“Imagine, if only one of these flats is affected, the spread will be very fast, so vaccination is very much needed in this area,” he continued.
Jokowi said that until the end of August, it is targeted that 7.5 million Jakarta residents have been vaccinated. According to him, this target is necessary in order to achieve communal immunity herd immunity.
“I have also conveyed to the Governor of DKI that at the end of August, the target of 7.5 million residents in Jakarta must have been vaccinated. This is indeed a very ambitious target. But like it or not, we have to go there to achieve communal immunity. herd immunity,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi hopes that all parties in DKI Jakarta can cooperate in administering this vaccination. DKI is also said to have high community interaction and mobility so that the speed of vaccination is very much needed.
“I hope everyone works hard at the mayoral, sub-district, kelurahan, and all health centers and hospitals in DKI Jakarta. Because DKI is the same, interaction between communities is high, the mobility of the people is also high, so the speed of vaccination will determine the spread of the virus. COVID-19,” said Jokowi.
Anies’ follow-up on Jokowi’s directive
Anies is trying to realize the target Jokowi. Anies said that currently 2.89 million DKI Jakarta residents have received doses of the vaccine. Anies targets 3 million DKI Jakarta residents to receive the vaccine in June.
“The target in June is 3 million. Now there are only 100 thousand left to reach the target. We need to add another 4.5 million. With this addition, we have reached 7.5 million so we can be in a situation God willing herd immunity,” Anies told reporters at the PMI Headquarters, Jalan Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta, Monday (14/6).
