This vaccine clinical trial involves 44 thousand volunteers, spread across the United States, South America and South Africa. In the United States, efficacy was recorded at 72 percent, in South Africa 57 percent, and South America 66 percent.
The test results in South Africa are of great significance because one of the more contagious variants originated in that region. The new variant has even spread to the United States.
