He is referring in particular to the advertisement in the AD, posted by women who work at Talpa. The full-page advertisement reads ‘Dear John, it’s not the women’s fault’.

entertainment">“I really did not understand why women are angry about my words instead of the perpetrators of sexually transgressive behavior,” said De Mol in his statement. “This morning I was hit even more by an advertisement in the newspaper. Immediately afterwards, I started talking to a number of women from the company who are behind this ad to understand this anger and disappointment.”

entertainment">The Talpa boss says that he ‘mainly listened’ during that conversation. “I now understand that, contrary to my good intentions, I have ignored the fact that I have completely unintentionally created the impression that the blame lies with women. It has become clear to me that women will not come forward if the culture in a company is not perceived as safe enough.”

Internal dialogue

entertainment">De Mol blames himself for the fact that his company ‘apparently is like that’ and wants to ‘dedicate himself 100%’ to tackle this. “I am open to learning more about this with the help of experts and to enter into a dialogue about this internally. I hope that this will also lead to a broader social discussion. I am not going to wait for that and immediately started to start this process in my own company. In the meantime, of course, I have also accepted an invitation from the State Secretary for Culture and Media to discuss this.”
