Jimmy Vicaut, former European 100m record holder, announced on Monday that he was leaving the United States and Rana Reider’s squad to settle in Italy under the orders of a new coach, Marco Airale. “After a complicated and disappointing season, a few weeks ago, I decided to return to Europe. Apart from my performances, my choice was motivated by the absence of my family which weighed on me daily“, writes the 29-year-old athlete on social media.
Eliminated in the semi-final of the Tokyo Olympic Games over 100 m, the French sprinter had been training for two years in Florida with Rana Reider in a galactic group, which notably included the Canadian Olympic champion in the 200 m Andre De Grasse. The Ile-de-France, regularly disturbed by injuries, decided to settle in Padua (north-east) to be coached by Marco Airale, a young Italian coach (31 years old) who was assistant to Rana Reider. Jimmy Vicaut seeks to review his ambitions “on the rise“while he has not run under 10 seconds on the straight since 2018.
