Jif Peanut Butter Products Recalled Due to Salmonella Concerns – NBC New York (47)

JM Smucker Co. issued a voluntary recall of select Jif peanut butter products sold in the US and Canada on Saturday due to possible salmonella contamination.

Why is Jif Peanut Butter being recalled?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration They said they are investigating reports of at least 14 people getting sick from the products in 12 states, while two were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

The recalled peanut butter products have been distributed across the country in retail stores and other outlets. The states that have reported cases of salmonella are Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

How to check if your peanut butter has been recalled?

Look at the area on the peanut butter jar where it says the “best if used by” date on the label. Just below that, you will see a series of numbers. Those are the batch codes. Recalled products include the following products with lot codes 1274425 – 2140425.

The FDA recommends that those in possession of these potentially contaminated products dispose of them immediately.

Salmonella can cause a wide variety of symptoms, which can lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
