The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) requested this Friday a arrest warrant against Jesús Orta, former Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City in the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum.
The arrest warrant against Orta would not be the only one, as it is part of a package along with other 18 alleged requests made by the Prosecutor’s Office, mainly towards former officials of the then Federal Police, according to journalist Omar Sánchez dTagle.
The also host of Radio Fórmula revealed in his official social networks that those involved are personnel of the Federal Police close to now senator Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, who was in charge of the Ministry of the Interior in the administration of Peña Nieto.
Jesús Orta, for his part, revealed in an interview with the newspaper Excélsior that he has not yet received notifications of the alleged arrest warrant issued against him from the FGR, by Alejandro Gertz Manero.
He also assured the reporter Gerardo Jiménez that it is a “leak to make a fly”, since in a legal sense there is currently no accusation against him.
Finally, he assured that his administration and his work in front of the security of the capital citizens was “completely clean” and he has no concerns. “The media part has more effect than anything else,” he insisted.
“Not at all (they notified him) or that there is an Investigation Folder against me and it also seems to me that they are dragging me for having had a position of Secretary General before Frida Martínez. They are telling me that it is a leak from the Attorney General’s Office (of the Republic), because of the profile and because it is my name, “he said in an interview with Excelsior.
Jesús Orta was Secretary General of the Federal Police and General Director of Administration of the Executive Secretary.
Orta was appointed as Secretary of Security by the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheimbaumbut he only lasted 10 months in office.
The former official presented his resignation to the local president after facing controversial cases.
Among them, the murder of Aidé Mendoza, a student at the CCH Oriente, Norberto Ronquillo, from the Pedregal University, or Leonardo Avendaño, a graduate of the Intercontinental University.
Other cases were the killing of two Israelis in the plaza Artz Pedregal, the complaint for the rape of a minor allegedly by police, among others.
Orta said that if it did not give results in his first year of management I would resign the position, which occurred two months before the self-imposed deadline.
“I am not going to hold on or give explanations to see why there are no results. (…) Close the year with an average of three daily. It is what we are committed to, considering the levels of 2018 ”.
Jesus Orta was also Senior Officer during the administration of Marcelo Ebrard as Head of Government and was Undersecretary of Financial Planning and Undersecretary of Expenditures.
The Secretary General of the Federal Police, Frida Martínez Zamora, and that he worked with Osorio Chong for more than 15 years is also among the people on whom the Prosecutor’s Office requested an arrest warrant.
Orta’s successor at the head of the Secretariat for Citizen Security was Omar García Harfuch, who only in June 2019 had assumed the leadership of the Investigative Police of Mexico City.
Just last June García Harfuch suffered an attack in the country’s capitals, who survived. After the attack, Omar García Harfuch spoke on Twitter. The official confirmed that his attack was perpetrated by the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel.
“This morning we were cowardly attacked by the CJNG; two colleagues and friends of mine lost their lives, I had three bullet wounds and several splinters, “he wrote on his social network.
He also sent a strong message to members of organized crime: “Our Nation must continue to confront cowardly organized crime. We will continue working ”.
García Harfuch is credited with leading the operations that ended in the arrests of some leaders of criminal groups such as Jorge Flores “El Tortas, from the Anti-Union and Pedro Ramírez “El Jamón”, boss of the Tepito Union; however, these have not been the only blows he has dealt to crime.
During his work as director of the Criminal Investigation Agency, García Harfuch, 37, captured other drug trafficking leaders, including Dámaso López Núñez “El Licenciado”, leader of the Sinaloa cartel, who was extradited to the United States and testified against “El Chapo” Guzmán during the trial in Nueva York. He even appeared as the coordinator of the captures of Javier Duarte in Guatemala, and Roberto Borge, in Panama.
