Born on January 2, 1943 in Baranavichy, present-day Belarus, Kopa began his coaching career at the age of 27, joining the Arkonia Szczecin team. Szombierki Bytom, Lech Poznań, Pogoń Szczecin, Legia Warsaw, Zagłębie Sosnowiec and Olimpia Poznań. In 1985 he became a trainer of the Greek Iraklis.
