Launch of Operation “100 Refuges for the Centenary”!

2021 marks the centenary of the LPO Refuges. Created in 1921 by the LPO, the Refuges LPO program is today the leading network of ecological gardens in France.

In order to celebrate this anniversary and promote local biodiversity, the LPO Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (BFC) launches Operation “100 Refuges for the Centenary! “ which aims to register 100 new LPO Refuges across the region. Welcome biodiversity to your home What if you welcome biodiversity to your home? This is the proposal made by the LPO BFC to all individuals, establishments, businesses and communities in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, with suitable land and committing to promote biodiversity while respecting the LPO Refuges charter.

A few simple steps are enough : install a nesting box, dig a pond, plant a hedge with local species, make compost, leave a corner of tall grass, make a pile of wood or stone … Advice, practical sheets and feedback are regularly shared for LPO Refuges.

Un Refuge LPO, Késako ? An LPO Refuge is a moral commitment to preserve nature and improve biodiversity on its land, and to respect the principles of the Refuge LPO charter, four in number:

100 years of the LPO in 2012

1 : I create favorable conditions the installation of wild fauna and flora (ensuring tranquility, installing nesting boxes, a pond, planting a hedge or favoring the establishment of local plant species)

2 : I give up chemicals (by adopting an ecological management method and preferring natural fertilizers)

3 : I reduce my impact on the environment (using resources such as water wisely and sorting my waste)

4 : I make my Refuge a space without hunting for biodiversity In France, there are more than 35,000 land labeled Refuges LPO, ranging from private gardens, balconies or terraces, municipal or business green spaces to numerous establishments (schools, hospitals, etc.) totaling 46,000 hectares of unspoiled natural spaces. And in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, more than 1,900 sites have the LPO Refuges label representing more than 2,300 hectares.

All at the Refuges ! There are two solutions to participate in the “100 Refuges for the Centenary” operation: – Volunteer individuals can register directly on the LPO Refuges website (“Act – Create an LPO Refuge” section). Once registration has been validated, they will receive a welcome box with a nesting box, a welcome panel and several mini-advice guides. – Establishments (schools, hospitals, leisure or educational facilities), businesses and communities (town halls, inter-municipal authorities, etc.) must contact their departmental referent (see below) for easier support.

Don’t wait for Nature to come to you, invite her! A surprise will be offered to the 100th Refuge LPO registered in 2021!
