– According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the number of Japanese residing abroad was about 1.41 million as of October 2019.

The idea for vaccination for overseas Koreans was at the request of Japanese residents in developing countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Japanese residents in countries with poor vaccine supply are feeling anxious about the local medical system and are requesting support from the Japanese government.

On the other hand, most advanced countries support vaccination for foreigners. This is because vaccination is also required for foreign residents for’collective immunity’, in which many living in one area obtain immunity and suppress the outbreak.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is planning to respond according to the circumstances of each country, but there are many tasks. Even if the Japanese government secures and transports the vaccine, it is impossible unless the local transport and vaccination environment are maintained. Accordingly, diplomatic missions of each country are investigating laws and regulations, the need for support, and vaccine transport systems.

Among them, about 450,000 vaccines, which are imported by the Japanese government from the Belgian factory of Pfizer, a US pharmaceutical company, entered Japan on the morning of the 21st. This is the second supply, and about 380,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine, which is the first quantity, arrived on the 12th.

The Japanese government began pre-vaccinating medical workers with this vaccine on the 17th. A total of 5039 people had been vaccinated by 5 pm on the 19th, and two of them showed relatively mild suspicion of side effects such as hives and chills, the Japanese Prime Minister’s official said.
