Japan Created a UV Lamp That Claims To Be 99% Capable Of Killing The Corona Virus

Winnetnews.com – A company Japan claims to have invented an ultraviolet light that can disinfect confined spaces and kill corona virus without disturbing human health.

This tool is a collaboration of lamp maker Ushio Inc. and Columbia University. They developed the Care 222 UV lamp, which is believed to be the world’s first indoor cleaner to fight the SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19.

Launch AA, this invention can be used in spaces where people are at high risk of contracting the virus, such as buses, trains, elevators, and offices. Just install it and humans and the surface that is illuminated are said to be safe and free from viruses.

The company says that in contrast to the conventional 254 nanometer wavelength that is harmful to human health, this lamp emits UV light with a wavelength below that of 222 nanometers.

The company claims that at this wavelength, UV rays cannot cause genetic defects and other damages such as skin cancer and vision loss. Hiroshima University also confirmed that 222 nanometer UV rays are efficient in disinfecting COVID-19.

Care 222 is believed to be able to disinfect 99% of viruses and bacteria in the air in six to seven minutes. The field capacity is up to 3 square meters on the surface of the object.

The company said the discovery would cost USD 2,870, or around Rp.44.2 million. For the record, currently they only accept orders from medical institutions. Even so, there is no deeper information about the innovation of UV lamps to prevent the transmission of this latest type of corona virus.
