Tokyo Electric Power, which is the operator of the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant (NPP), has begun dumping radioactive water. Since 2011, there has been a question about its disposal after an accident at the corresponding station due to an earthquake. The event is broadcast by Japanese media.
“Japan has begun dumping contaminated water from the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant. <…> Tokyo Electric Power Company (operator of the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant – approx. URA.RU) <…> started discharging contaminated water stored in the reservoir,” transmits Korean agency Yonhap, referring to the broadcast of Japanese TV channels.
It is noted that after the accident 12 years ago, they tried to purify the contaminated water and partially succeeded, but they could not filter it from tritium. Tritium is a super-heavy hydrogen that cannot be filtered. All this time, water was stored in tanks while the issue of its disposal was decided.
As a result, the Japanese government decided to drain the radioactive water into the ocean on August 24th. The Russian Foreign Ministry clarified that Japan should take care after the decision, reports RT. Rospotrebnadzor stated that it intends to strengthen control over the import of goods from Japan to Russia in connection with the incident. China also expressed concern MK.RU.
