“The pandemic has hit Flanders – just like the rest of the world – economically and socially,” says Jan Jambon. “But without wishing to spoil this weekend’s festivities, I must also tell you that the worst economic suffering is likely to come.” Jambon expects a wave of layoffs and bankruptcies, but also points to the possible consequences of a hard Brexit.
But crises also offer opportunities. Jambon makes a call. “I appeal to you: young and older, employee and employer, civil servant and self-employed. Let’s all stand shoulder to shoulder and back our shoulders. Not only to get our weak economy back up to speed, but also to help us social fabric and our Flemish nation. ”
“We will be inspired by the recommendations of experts in the social and economic recovery committees,” says the Flemish Prime Minister. The experts will publish their report next week.
