Jan ¦piewak the Commissioner for Citizens’ Rights? W³adys³aw Kosiniak-Kamysz: An interesting concept | Policy

On September 9, Adam Bodnar’s five-year term as the Ombudsman will end. Until August 10, deputies may propose their candidates for his successor. Ultimately, the candidate will be selected by the Sejm with the consent of the Senate.

On Wednesday W³adys³aw Kosiniak-Kamysz informed that on the same day the Polish Coalition would send Andrzej Duda a draft amendment to the Act on the Human Rights Defender. The club wants non-governmental organizations, not MPs, to nominate candidates for the Ombudsman and that the Sejm, with the consent of the Senate, elects a new Ombudsman from among them.

Jan Śpiewak the Commissioner for Citizens’ Rights? Kosiniak-Kamysz: An interesting concept

Wladyslaw Kosiniak- Kamysz was the “Guest of Events” in Polsat, where he answered questions regarding the selection of the new Ombudsman. – Do you think Jan Śpiewak, because such a candidature appeared, would be a good, compromise candidate for the successor of Adam Bodnar? – asked Bogdan Rymanowski, who conducted the interview.

This is definitely a person involved in civic life. Interesting concept. I have a positive opinion about his great commitment to what is happening in Warsaw, about his social mission in all of this. Probably not everything was perfect

– He said. When asked about the candidacy of the independent senator Lidia Staroń, Kosiniak-Kamysz replied that “Jan Śpiewak gets to me better at the first sound”.

However, the leader of the peasants added that his club was also considering proposing a candidate. – We are also considering whether we will propose a candidate. I met a civic candidate supported by many non-governmental organizations (…) It is not only worth proposing a candidate, but also looking for one who will receive votes from the rulers and the opposition – he added.

The peasant leader also referred to the announcement of an amendment to the Act on the Ombudsman. – We are changing the Act on the Human Rights Defender so that he is the most representative of civic circles, non-governmental circles, and public benefit organizations – he said.

We will involve non-governmental organizations. It is they who will indicate the persons, and from among these persons indicated by public benefit organizations, the Sejm will elect one from among two persons to become the Ombudsman, with the consent of the Senate

he explained.

Kosiniak-Kamysz added that ultimately the Polish Coalition would like to amend the constitution. – We are ultimately aiming to amend the constitution and elect the direct Ombudsman. But it is impossible for now, so we have found a solution in which we will involve non-governmental organizations, he explained.
