Jakub Świerczok in Piast Gliwice. How not to overpay and get quality

The last details of Jakub Świerczok’s move from Łudogorco Razgrad to Piast Gliwice are being finalized. As we informed earlier, the footballer underwent medical tests on Monday, and today he will sign a contract with the third club of the last season, PKO Ekstraklasa. How much will Piast pay for the player?

We often complain that Polish clubs bring foreign shit. They overpay for unchecked “goods” or misjudge a player’s potential, which quickly turns out to be a failure. There are plenty of examples and it makes no sense to stigmatize anyone in this text. Let the fan of each club make a list of the biggest transfer failures of his favorite team in his head.

Clubs that don’t earn as little as they like to portray simply burn cash a lot in the oven. The transfer of Jakub Świerczok to Piast Gliwice is not the case and stands as an example in the second table: “Quality at a good price”.

The 27-year-old has defended the colors of Łudogorcie for the last two and a half years. Last season, he played 32 matches for the Bulgarian team and scored 11 goals in them. In total, in 82 games he made decent numbers – 36 goals and 10 assists. So how do you get a good player who has a valid contract for a year and a half and not overpay?

A lot of work was done here by the sports director Bogdan Wilk, who set himself the goal of bringing Waldemar Fornalik a solid cannon to attack, and the football manager Jarosław Kołakowski guarding the player’s interests. And this one wanted to change the environment to one in which he would regain his shine and perhaps leave in a short time to another foreign club.

The negotiations were difficult and at one stage involved the inclusion of Jakub Czerwiński’s defense lawyer. Ultimately, such a solution was avoided, which does not weaken the club before starting in the Europa League qualifying rounds. In Gliwice, they can be satisfied with what has been achieved. They blew their nose at richer clubs that were looking or looking for reinforcements in the attack. As we heard Piast will pay only 50,000 euro for the annual loan, plus a small amount depending on the sports result – the place taken in the league in the 2020/2021 season. We do not know the redemption amount, but it should be around several hundred thousand euros.

From what we hear, however, the plan is for the footballer to play in Poland for a year and only then will each side assess what the future will be like. It’s a good deal. It is possible that if Świerczok presents a form similar to that from before his trip to Bulgaria (he scored sixteen goals for Zagłębie Lubin in the autumn round), he will again choose a foreign direction.

We do not hide that we like such transfers very much. Piast benefits – without overpaying and bringing a player he knows well. The player benefits – he goes to the club and has a coach who wants him and can show what he can and at his age still work for a solid contract in another league.

I must admit that the summer transfer window in PKO Ekstraklasa, because there are more interesting and thoughtful moves, at least on paper. May this be also confirmed on the pitch in the league, which is starting this weekend.
