A dramatic last-second field goal by Jake Moody lifted the Chicago Bears to a 25-24 victory over the Washington Commanders on Monday night, while in an earlier contest, the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Buffalo Bills 24-14.
The Bears’ win was particularly remarkable given Moody’s recent journey: drafted by the san Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2023 draft, he was released after a Week 1 performance this season. Chicago signed him to their practice squad, and he was elevated to the active roster for Monday’s game following an injury to Cairo Santos.
Moody’s 38-yard field goal with just three seconds remaining sealed the win for Chicago. He had previously connected on two field goals earlier in the game, as the Bears initially built a 13-0 lead fueled by a rushing touchdown from quarterback caleb williams.
The Commanders responded with a touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels to Chris Moore at Northwest Stadium, narrowing the gap to six points. Washington then took the lead after Daniels connected with Luke McCaffrey and Zach Ertz for touchdowns,establishing a 24-16 advantage.
Chicago fought back with a 55-yard receiving touchdown by D’Andre Swift, but a failed two-point conversion left them trailing 24-22. A crucial fumble by Daniels then gave the Bears possession, setting the stage for Moody’s game-winning kick.

In the earlier game, the Atlanta Falcons secured a 24-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills. Details of that contest were not immediately available.
“That’s who we are. We fight,” said Williams, who finished with 252 passing yards and one touchdown, as the Bears improved to 3-2 on the season. “we’re 3-2 because of our fight, because of how we face adversity and come together.”
With the loss, the commanders fall to 3-3, while the Bears climb to 3-2.
