Jair Catuy is having a good time. Three goals and two assists in two games played, with CD Universitario, in the 2021 Apertura Tournament of the Panamanian Football League (LPF), they show it.

“I am happy,” he said in an interview with We are La Sele Radio. “I think this is also due to the great group we have formed with our teammates. The team is doing well, they have understood the ‘teacher’ (Gary Stempel) well and that is part of the result we see in the team.”
Currently, the college cast leads the Western Conference with six points, the product of two wins without losses. That good start contrasts with what happened at the end of last year when the representative cast of Penonomé, Coclé province, could not advance to the semifinals.
“We had the opportunity of a new project in the U,” said the player who played with San Francisco FC. “I moved with my family, and that is a good thing that a player is close to his family, and being able to play on a natural field which is also something that helps soccer in Panama,” he added.
Another experience that has helped Catuy to grow as a footballer is having worn the shirt of the Panama National Team in the game against Serbia.
“At the time, Thomas Christiansen approached me and told me that if I improved my weight it would be better on the court, to take advantage of it,” he said. “Now I have worked hard, I have hit hard and the result is showing.”
Playing in the new Universidad Latina stadium has been good for Catuy and his teammates, who won in their inauguration against San Francisco, by 3 to 2, on February 27.
“It’s a court that gives us a lot of space to move the ball, but you can’t run a lot because it’s a bit heavy and you can’t run ‘like crazy’ because you get tired,” he explained.
Although he has not ventured into soccer abroad, the native of Capira, Panama Oeste, said that he continues to work within Panamanian football, aware that the opportunity will come at the right time.
“There have been offers that have not materialized, I don’t have an agent,” he said. “Only God when the opportunity will be given, I keep working, focused and waiting,” he said.
