The reason should be a patented technology that, when a single button is pressed, changes several parameters of the car to make it easier to overcome a certain type of terrain.

According to the BloomberqQuint website, Jaguar Land Rover has approached the US International Trade Commission to block sales of several SUVs from Volkswagen’s portfolio in the US market. The reason is the unauthorized use of the patented Terrain Response system.
According to Jaguar Land Rover, this system, which adapts several key parameters and adjusts the car’s behavior to specific conditions at the touch of a button, is one of the key elements of SUVs in their portfolio and can be crucial for the customer when choosing a car.

Just a reminder – the system allows you to easily switch the car to several driving modes (such as sand, mud, stone, climbing, etc.) to which the brakes, accelerator pedal response, transmission and other technical components are then adapted. All this in order to maximize terrain capabilities and ensure the crew a comfortable passage almost anywhere.
However, according to Land Rover, SUVs such as the Porsche Cayenne, Lamborghini Urus, VW Tiguan and several Audi models are using a similar system, including the American bestseller Q5, which the British carmaker requires to stop selling. If it succeeded, it would undoubtedly be a significant blow to the group.

However, as the BloobmerqQuint website notes, this is not the first attempt by JLR to block a group model in the US market. Earlier, the British carmaker had to appeal to the Bentley brand not to use the Driver Dynamics system in the Bentayga model. However, Bentley did not do that, and both companies are apparently awaiting trial in February.
The US representative of the Volkswagen Group has refused to provide BloomberqQuint with a statement on the matter, but according to our overseas colleagues, it can be expected that both companies will probably lead a major legal battle soon. And there will be a lot to play.
