Jaguar and Land Rover decided to make car interiors from ocean debris :: Autonews

British Alliance Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will use a special material for the interiors of its new vehicles, obtained from recycled ocean waste and recyclable materials. Reported by press service of the automaker.

We are talking about a special nylon called Econyl, which is made from reclaimed industrial plastics, scraps of fabric recycled by clothing manufacturers, as well as “ghost nets” – fishing gear left at sea.

Synthetic fibers are used in the next generation of JLR floor mats and interiors. At the moment, Econyl nylon is used by brands that produce luxury watches, as well as expensive sportswear, backpacks and bags.

The company noted that the process of making nylon from recyclable materials is 90% less harmful to the environment compared to the process of making the same material from crude oil.

At the moment, the British automaker already offers cars with materials in the cabin that use reclaimed waste. For example, the Jaguar I-Pace electric crossover can be ordered with Kvadrat, a combination of wool, suede fabric and fiber sourced from recycled plastic bottles.
