It’s terrible, the majority of fast food in this country contains hazardous chemicals

JAKARTA – Research conducted by George Washington University concluded the majority fast food contains harmful chemicals, Phthalates. The study was conducted on 64 fast food sold in the United States such as hamburgers, pizza and Tex-Mex.

“We found phthalates and other plastic materials are widely used in fast food restaurants. So consumers not only get a filling snack but also potential health problems because of the chemicals in the food,” said Lariah Edwards, a researcher at George Washington University.

Of all the fast foods studied it is known that there are two elements Phthalates namely DnBP and DEHP. As many as 81 percent of the foods studied had the chemical element DnBP while 70 percent of the foods also had the chemical compound DEHP. Both chemicals have been linked to neurodevelopmental, metabolic, and reproductive disorders.

Not only DnBP and DEHP, other Phtahalates-forming chemicals were also found in the foods they studied. They found there was a large concentration of DEHT and it was present in 86 percent of the study sample. The New Atlas mentions DEHT instead of traditional Phthalates. These chemicals are often used in the plastics industry.

DEHT is also what exposes Americans to chemicals more often than DnBP and DEHP. Because some fast food restaurants in Uncle Sam’s country use a lot of plastic tableware made using the chemical DEHT. As a result, exposure to chemicals experienced by Americans is very high.

“Even though DEHT is currently banned in the children’s toy industry, the fact is that eating utensils are still using it. There needs to be strong regulations so that all types of phthalates are not used in fast food,” the study wrote.

For years, chemicals have been suspected of being a major factor in health problems in the United States. Research conducted Grossman School of Medicine at New York University even mentions 100,000 sudden deaths that occur are thought to be due to Phathalates exposure.
