JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) opens its voice after one of the tweets seller from marketplace Shopee who received a tax bill of up to IDR 35 million went viral on social media.
Director of Counseling, Services and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) Neilmaldrin Noor stated that the letter with the letterhead from the DGT was not a bill to pay taxes.
The letter appears to be a request for clarification and an appeal for the implementation of tax obligations.
“The letter on social media is a request for clarification and an appeal for the implementation of tax obligations, so it gives the right to explain to the taxpayer, not a bill,” said Neilmaldrin to Kompas.com, Wednesday (11/24/2021) yesterday.

The letter was sent because the seller has entered as a Taxpayer, but has not yet performed his tax obligations. Taxpayers include seller in e-commerce to other taxpayers.
However, the DGT admits that there are no regulations that require it marketplace to deposit seller data with the tax office.
So where did the Directorate General of Taxes get the sales turnover data from the seller at Shopee?
“The Directorate General of Taxes has collaborated with various agencies, institutions, associations and other parties (ILAP) in an effort to explore the tax potential of taxpayers,” said Neilmadrin to Compass TV, Thursday (25/11/2021).
“The Directorate General of Taxes also always explores the potential for data held through the KPP or the Regional Office where the Taxpayer is registered,” he continued.
