“It’s a whole world!”

INTERVIEW

Madame Monsieur unveils Damaged hearts, the new single from the duo who represented France at Eurovision Song Contest in 2018. They were the first French candidates to be chosen by the public thanks to the show On the way to Eurovision. The show Media Culture receives on this occasion Friday Emilie Satt, singer of the group. She returns to Philippe Vandel’s microphone on the duo’s experience in the international singing competition.

The singer reveals an unknown side of the competition: what happens between the selection of the French candidate and the big evening of the final. “There is a before and an after, for sure,” says Emilie Satt. “We lived this period by taking everything we could take. We grew really strong during these few months of preparation, before the big evening.”

A “behind the scenes fascinating and benevolent”

An upstream that she details. “We still think that Eurovision is an evening. But in fact, there is a lot of work upstream, concerts all over Europe, of presentation of the song “, specifies the singer.” There is a whole preparatory work where we will meet the ‘eurofans’ all over Europe and even further afield. “

This crucial stage of the competition receives little media coverage in France. It is much better known in the countries which are not founders of the competition, and which must thus promote their song to increase their chances of qualifying at the various stages which lead to the final. France, the founding country, is automatically qualified. “It’s a whole world Eurovision!”, Summarizes Emilie Satt. “We knew Eurovision well, but like everyone else. We discovered behind the scenes which is fascinating, very, very benevolent and which really carried us.”

The post-Eurovision blues

Emilie Satt also explains that this good atmosphere makes the aftermath all the more difficult to get through. “The day after the Eurovision final, we went really low. As if all the pressure was coming down,” she says. “It seems that even among the preparers and the organizers, the people who work at Eurovision, there is this same huge blues that happens. And we felt that really very strongly. We were also exhausted after all these months of work. . “

Once the blues had passed, Madame Monsieur had to grow the Eurovision Song Contest to grow her career. “The next story is important since you have to succeed in building it”, confirms Emilie Satt. “So, it’s very important to stay in people’s minds as having done Eurovision. But you also have to detach yourself from it a bit. Which is no small task.” The final of theEurovision 2021 will take place on May 22. Barbara Pravi, representative of France, is in full tour of presentation of her title here, as evidenced by his Instagram account.
