On April 6, the Orthodox Church celebrates the death of St. Methodius of Slavonia. St. Methodius was the older brother of the Slavic equal apostle Constantine the Philosopher – St. Cyril.
In his early youth he chose the military field and for 10 years ruled a Slavic region under the control of the Byzantine emperor.
However, he felt God’s call, renounced his high position and entered a monastery located on Mount Olympus – Asia Minor.
After a while, his younger brother Constantine came to him. From then on, they were inseparable until their death and together they performed the great and remarkable work – the creation of the Slavic script and the Christian education among the Slavs. St. Methodius is celebrated and on May 11th together with St. Cyril.
April 6 marks the Assumption of St. Ехтихий. St. Martyrs Timothy and Diogenes.
