Italy’s minister of sport promises training in early May

Italian Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora has announced May 4 as a possible date for the resumption of training in Serie A. After the government extended the strict exit restrictions for 60 million citizens by around three weeks until May 3, Spadafora released a video on Facebook on Friday. He spoke of mild signs of improvement, but the situation was still dramatic.

Italy is among the most severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic worldwide. The contagion wave has slowed recently. Despite this, civil defense reported 570 new deaths within 24 hours on Friday. A total of 18,849 people have died there since the onset of the coronavirus wave in February.

Spadafora said that he asked the sports associations for the relevant protocols to ensure the safety of the athletes when they returned to training. The Italian Football Championship still has twelve game days to go.
