Italy reported a record 189,000 new cases of coronavirus per day

Italy today reported a record number of new cases of coronavirus per day – 189,109 compared to 170,844 yesterday, the Ministry of Health said, quoted by Reuters.

At the same time, deaths related to coronavirus have decreased from 259 to 231, reports BTA.

Italy has registered 138,276 virus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic in February 2020 and has reported 6.76 million infections so far.

The number of patients in hospital with KOVID-19 (excluding those in intensive care) was 13,364 on Wednesday, compared to 12,912 a day earlier.

132 new patients were admitted to the intensive care units, compared to 153 yesterday. The total number of patients in the intensive care units increased to 1428 compared to 1392 the previous day.

About 1.094 million tests for KOVID-19 were performed in the last 24 hours, compared to 1.23 million yesterday, the health ministry said.
