The Italian tourist’s wife infected with the new coronavirus showed positive results in the first analysis carried out at Hospital Candelaria, where she has been isolated since Monday night.
Spanish government sources indicated that, although in principle she has no symptoms, a test was performed due to her proximity to the infected person (an Italian doctor from the Lombardy region in Italy who was in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the islands Canary Islands), with this positive finding.
With this confirmation, there are five cases registered in Spain, one of them in Catalonia, of a woman who lives in Barcelona and has traveled to northern Italy in the last few days.
About a thousand tourists staying at a hotel in Adeje, south of Tenerife, where the Italian confirmed to be infected by Covid-19 and his wife were staying, were isolated on the recommendation of health authorities, according to the Spanish press.
The Government of the autonomous community of the Canary archipelago activated, in the early hours of today, the protocol in force in case of infection with Covid-19 and, as a preventive measure, proceeded to quarantine the infected person’s partner, as well as about thousand tourists who were staying at the same hotel.
According to various media, health checks are being carried out in the hotel establishment for people who may have had contact with the infected person.
