It was the last straw that broke the glass

Lütfiye Selva Çam, Head of AKP Women’s Branches, responded to Akit writer Abdurrahman Dilipak, who waged war on the Istanbul Convention and made ugly acts against women with her article titled “AKP’s daisies”.

“The white women’s movement is never a feminist movement,” said Çam, saying, “White women cannot be distinguished by anyone like the AK Party or the AKP. White women are honest, moral, patriots. Nobody can speak for the honor of our women by swearing”.

In the continuation of his statement, Çam said, “We have never been and will not be silent in the face of journalists and social media phenomena that seem to be in the political movement with us. The severely insulting content against our women is now the last straw in our organization.”

‘WE MADE A CRIME REPORT’

Stating that they will not accept any insult against women from AKP, Çam said, “For this reason, our AK Party Headquarters applied to the judiciary against Yeni Akit Newspaper columnist Abdurrahman Dilipak for the attacks he made against the women of our party with insults, ugly accusations and writings. However, at the same time, our Headquarters Women’s Branch and our presidencies in 81 provinces filed a criminal complaint against the said journalist to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices.

Istanbul Convention, prepared for violence prevention for women and Turkey was the first signatory to a contract with an international character.

Proponents of the contract to withdraw from Turkey’s Istanbul Convention “is damaging to the Turkish family structure” he suggests.

Following the statement of AKP Secretary General Fatih Şahin, “We are preparing to file a lawsuit against Abdurrahman Dilipak”, AKP Women’s Branch President Lütfiye Selva Çam announced that the 81 provincial women’s branch president would file a criminal complaint against Dilipak.

ISTANBUL CONVENTION CREATED A CRACK

Discussions on the Istanbul Convention created a crack in the AKP. While pressure continued to abolish the contract from male AKP rulers and Islamist groups, including religious sects, voices of objection rose from female party members as KADEM made a stand in the debate.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Yeni Akit writer Abdurrahman Dilipak, in his article published on Monday, July 27, insulted the defenders of the Istanbul Convention by calling them “prostitutes”. Dilipak later said, “I did not use such an expression for those who do not think like me. The statement in my article is that those who support the Istanbul Convention have also supported prostitution.”

Following these words, AKP Secretary General Şahin stated that they will follow the legal processes by making the necessary legal and criminal applications.
