Can a seasonality of the coronavirus explain that South America is on the way to becoming the new epicenter of the pandemic, as feared by the WHO? This is in any case a plausible argument according to the doctor Raphaël Pitti. While the Northern Hemisphere comes out of winter and slowly deconfigures, especially in Europe, the South returns there and suffers the full force of the effects of the Covid, like Brazil which now has 330,000 cases and 21,048 deaths for 210 million inhabitants. “So it seems that we are dealing with a seasonal illness,” he said at the microphone of Europe 1.
“If there is to be a new epidemic peak, we will know in the fall”
While “we have probably passed the first epidemic wave”, the much-feared return of the coronavirus to France would therefore not take place for several months, according to the one who is also an anesthetist. “If there is to be a new epidemic peak, we will know in the fall as it did this year.” An argument that seems to confirm the daily figures given by the Ministry of Health, since resuscitation is down for several weeks now in France.
Do not confuse winter flu and coronavirus
What about the distinction that will have to be made between the traditional flu and the Covid-19? “It will be complicated,” anticipates the doctor. “It is therefore very important that the population can be vaccinated en masse”, so as “not to confuse them, especially in the case of asymptomatic patients”.
