it occupies the entire dashboard of the car and is curved- Corriere.it

For the first information on the sensational MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment system, it is necessary to wait for the opening of the CES, on Monday (this year, due to the pandemic, also the world consumer electronics exhibition – which usually took place in Las Vegas, digital event). More details will be added in the summer, with the debut of the EQS, the electric Mercedes flagship that will mount this revolutionary device for the first time.

Mercedes calls it a driver’s assistant and front passenger, constantly learning, thanks to artificial intelligence. This is the evolution of the MBUX system, introduced by Mercedes in 2018 on the A-Class and subsequently mounted on more than 1.8 million cars, large and small, of the brand. Gorden Wagener, head of the German group’s designers, explains that the system set up according to the zero layer logic, literally no layering. In the sense of functions: they are all, at least the main ones, present and under the eyes (of the driver and, in the case of the passenger). Enough with the browse of endless men, enough with the commands (even the vocal ones). Back to simple.

The great cinema in the car, says the slogan of Mercedes. The effect is more or less the same. The interior of the car, starting – as mentioned – from the EQS, are redesigned starting from the new technical solution. Driver and passenger have a single curved plastic frame (in Silver Shadow color), covered with anti-reflective glass, which extends for almost the entire width of the dashboard for a total of 141 cm and also integrates the side air vents.

Not a single display – under the frame there are many (the House has not yet said how many and what size), divided into three main areas, as well as 12 actuators for tactile feedback and an eight-core system with 24 Gb of RAM. The passenger has a dedicated and easily accessible screen, which turns into a decorative element when the seat is not occupied. Other news: the personalization system according to seven profiles. The dominant hues are blue and orange, with spectacular graphic elements for data visualization.

At the heart of the new system is Artificial Intelligence, which learns the habits and needs of users in order to proactively offer them the information they need only when it is needed. For example, it suggests the phone number that is called often, at a specific time or at the same point on the route, with any relevant information about the contact. The AI can also suggest the activation of the heating or massage functions that the seats are equipped with according to the music that has been selected and the weather conditions. And we stop here because the possibilities of human-car interaction would fill a booklet.

The new MBUX Hyperscreen at the same time brain and nervous system of the car. It is connected to all vehicle components and communicates with them: this allows for a new form of interactivity and individuality, explains Sajjad Khan, member of the Mercedes board. In fact, compared to what will end up under the EQS dashboard, the infamous Hey Mercedes, introduced less than three years ago, is already outdated.
